The Higher Dimension of E-Learning

3 min read

How are these new learning tools sustainable?

Going digital and implementing software-based training is a first step towards a more environmentally friendly business approach when it comes to learning, making sure your employees’ skills remain up to date and keeping pace with the latest business innovations.

No more paper means less debris. No more physical presence made mandatory means less driving or flying, therefore a reduced carbon footprint. E-learning and game-based training support both concepts in an interactive and fun way, removing tangible elements and giving the opportunity for more and more participants to be included.

The “full classroom” concept is gone. Through e-learning and game-based training it is now possible to educate a larger number of people at a very reasonable cost, without need of travelling for students nor teachers. This turns out to be a comfortable and time saving solution for all parties. Now the training can be taken in our pyjamas or in our bathtubs, at night or during the day, whenever suits us and wherever we can accommodate it into our lives. Time and place are no longer an impediment.

How is sustainability measured?

With the new e-learning training systems, sustainability is measured by assessing the overall performance related to social, environmental, technical and economic principles. Here, not only the flexibility is a plus, but also the autonomy that lies within the constant possibility of updating the course, without further support from a teacher or professional. This type of educational system meets lifelong learning needs, being able to constantly bring the workers up to date, reskill and upskill them, while keeping track of the progress, with minimum efforts and maximum fun. From now on, not just select employees will be given room for learning, but everybody within the business space, as this method ensures a fair distribution of opportunities to all. Space and time have been rebalanced and recreated in an intelligent way, making room for inclusion and integration, no more exclusion, privilege, or preference.

In terms of sustainability, e-learning and game-based learning systems play an important role, since they decrease the energy consumption of gas, electricity and CO2 emissions by eliminating the need to travel to classrooms and back. In addition, these new learning methods also mitigate the debris generation, such as paper printouts, as everything we need is provided electronically and stored in the cloud. Smart, isn’t it?

Sometimes, by making a small decision, such as switching to e-learning or game-based learning instead of classical teaching methods, or simply optimising the training through a mix of both, bigger efficiency and sustainability goals are met:

  • Improved personnel development, tailored to each participant’s needs, supporting inclusion and diversity, while enhancing talent and reskilling instead of taking on new hires.
  • A user-friendlier way to test and keep track of the constant progress at our own pace.
  • Space for a larger audience within the training process, meaning that the organisation will count on a higher number of skilled employees with minimum costs, which translates into added value for the organisation.
  • Happier personnel. Customer care starts with caring for the internal customers: your people. A fun and easy-to-use training system, where everybody has the chance to contribute, to a stress-free learning method and a healthier work environment.

Sustainability practices are being encouraged throughout most industries today and education or training should be no exception. When instructors adopt blended learning (traditional and e-learning), they embrace the benefits generated by both systems. Physical barriers to learning are removed and a teacher can take on more flexible and engaging approaches, even leading to stimulating their own creativity. The mixed methods are preferred over the traditional ones, as they provide the organisations with the tools needed to encompass different audiences with various ambitions and inclinations.

If you are looking for ways to create a happier workforce and promote inclusive behaviour in your organisation, you have landed in the right place. We support sustainable training that is safe, easy to implement and tailored to your employees’ needs.
